I think solar panels are a great way to save electricity. However, they can not be used at night. Because you need light.
Also I agree with Lydia because she said that you dont need to change the bulbs in them regulary unlike normal lights.

This atricle is totally bias. Plus, some of the advantages are just rephrased and added as totally different advantages. Plus, a lot of times the initial cost of the panels and their installation are not fully recompensated in the time it is used. Don't ge the wrong idea, I'm all for solar panels, but you still need to admit all its faults

if solar panels were that good we would use them to replace our major power plants - as we don't they aren't good enough yet..

Also one wonders how much damage to the environment we are doing to produce them? (what is the actual cost...? how much money is being redirected from true energy generation system to this trendy system which is still not sufficient to go anywhere near actually replacing ... people may argue we should put in more money to R&D for this but sadly we will pay the price (it seems) for not having R&D in real power generation systems.... )..

maybe i am too pessimistic or have less belief in the media hype (we hear how wonderful wind power is - but is this actually any good ? )

sorry just my 20 cents....

Advantages & Dis-Advantages of solar energy/ solar lighting on hill tops?

What is the capacity we need to buy for having lighting on top hill?

For how long can we burn lights in places where it is almost cloudy throughout
the day?

solar power is not only effichant but it is also safest among animals such as brids but also humans, but could you imagine not paying an electrcity bill for the rest of your life. people should start being green and switch to solar power energy.

alex on May 9th, 2008 5:41 pm Solar energy is the wave of the future! Thanks for all the great info. I was browsing through a bunch of green websites and blogs and I came across yours and found it very interesting. There are a bunch of others I like too, like the daily green, ecorazzi and earthlab.com. I especially like EarthLab.com’s carbon calculator. I find it really easy to use (it doesn’t make me feel guilty after I take it). Are there any others you would recommend? Can you drop me a link to your favorites (let me know if they are the same as mine).

Lu Lu on November 2nd, 2008 5:29 pm But, there must be more disadvantages?
surely solar power cannot be perfect?

Annie on April 6th, 2009 11:37 am Are there any more disadvantages listed, because I could list alot more.

Annie on April 6th, 2009 11:38 am Great website. Just what I needed for my solar car project. Thank You

commandercool on April 22nd, 2009 9:33 pm thank you sooooooooo much, this is also helping me on my project

Maria on May 6th, 2009 3:37 pm This is a good website, but I think more disadvantages can be included.

JohnTaylor on June 11th, 2009 7:01 am Maria? Please do share some of those disadvantages that you think we missed? The comments are turned on so that people can discuss the subjects, so if you have something to share, please do tell us waht you have on your mind?

LuLu, the only “disadvantages” have to do with storing the energy, which is quickly being addressed, now that people are taking alternative energy seriously. As far as I can tell, the biggest reason that alternative energy hasn’t gained more support in the past is that it’s not an ongoing money-maker for energy companies. Sure, they sell the equipment (to those who don’t do it themselves and can afford a huge profit up-front,) but then you’re getting free energy from nature for YEARS — energy that corporations can’t profit from and the government has no practical way to tax. Follow the money, and you’ll see why alternative energy sources have been squashed for so long.

shifna on July 23rd, 2009 1:03 am Solar energy is future energy and it cost depend on size i f you buy a big one it cost more if you buy a middle or small it cost a bit.
solar energy is better than the others because it help ful for people and it does’nt have a lot disadvanteges

i found out

Vikas on October 25th, 2009 10:02 am Good article.

rasta on February 18th, 2010 6:33 pm you say you can rely on the sun every day. but then you say you can’t harness solar during a storm, a cloudy day, or at night. make up your mind, get your facts straight….

the confused

diva shines on February 20th, 2010 2:58 am i have some disadvatage of solar cells
disadvantage:
they cannot be used in the night as there is no light enery from the sun .

typi314 on March 13th, 2010 7:29 pm I think solar is too far behind to be investing heavily in it. Such as power plants and the such. Too expensive

Maya Brooks on April 28th, 2010 4:43 pm Solar Energy is one of the best sources of clean and green electricity. I think that we should build more efficient solar thermal power plants and solar cells. frequently. .
